About this position
University of Oxford is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Biology, based in the SynOxys Lab. The project is part of the ARIA grant OPTIMiSE and focuses on molecular plant biology, especially chloroplast transformation, transplastomic plants, DNA delivery to chloroplasts, and improving photosynthetic performance.
The successful candidate will optimise DNA delivery methods, transform leaf explants, regenerate transplastomic plants, and characterise photosynthetic traits. The role also includes protocol development and close collaboration with researchers working on chloroplast transformation.
This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral post available from 1 November 2026 until end of May 2028. The post is supported by grant funding; no stipend amount is stated.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil and have relevant experience in molecular plant biology. Strong organisation, record-keeping, teamwork, independence, willingness to learn new methods, and the ability to persevere with difficult experimental results are highlighted. Experience growing plants in soil and in vitro is desirable.
Applications must be submitted online via the University of Oxford e-recruitment system. A supporting statement and CV are required, and the supporting statement should address each selection criterion with examples.
