About this position
Washington State University is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Electrical Engineering, focused on power systems, grid-forming inverter models, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) modeling, stability analysis, and robust control strategies for inverter-based resources.
The postdoc will work under the supervision of Dr. Wei Du in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Energy Systems Innovation Center at WSU’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. The role includes research on electric power grid modeling and analysis, hardware experiments, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and collaboration with PNNL researchers. The successful candidate will also help supervise PhD students, support research planning, and contribute to paper reading sessions and training for early-stage doctoral researchers.
This is a full-time, temporary appointment for 12 months, expected to run from 2026-08-20 to 2027-08-19. The salary range is $62,232–$120,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the position includes a comprehensive benefits package. Renewal depends on extension needs and additional funding.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering (Power Engineering or related field) and have research experience in power-grid modeling/analysis and inverter/HVDC stability studies. The posting states that the position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
How to apply: submit the application online through the WSU Workday portal. Upload a CV/resume and cover letter, and make sure the documents clearly show how you meet the required qualifications. The deadline is 2026-08-19 at 11:59 pm.
