The University of Bergen (UiB) is offering a full-time temporary postdoctoral research fellowship at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Dentistry, for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension. The position is part of the TuniScaff project, funded by The Research Council of Norway (RCN), and is focused on validating an innovative 3D-bioprinted, tissue-specific scaffold for bone regeneration.
The project combines regenerative medicine, dentistry, biomaterials, and tissue engineering. The work will involve fabricating and validating synthetic polymer scaffolds with suitable structural and physicochemical properties, developing and characterizing biodegradable ultra-pure nanocellulose for tissue-engineered bone constructs, and evaluating both in vitro and in vivo safety and regenerative efficacy. Key biological endpoints include osteogenic and angiogenic responses, bone formation, and vascularization.
This postdoc is well suited to candidates with a strong background in regenerative medicine, dental research, biomedical engineering, or biomaterials science. Preferred experience includes 3D printing, bioprinting, mesenchymal stem cell culture, material characterization, computational engineering, programming, and computer-aided design. The successful applicant should be able to work independently, collaborate effectively, and communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
Eligibility requires a Norwegian PhD or equivalent degree in regenerative medicine and dentistry, or a doctoral thesis submitted by the deadline, with the degree awarded no later than five months after the closing date. The appointment is fixed-term and intended to support progression toward top academic positions. The role may include teaching and similar departmental duties.
Funding is provided through RCN, and the salary is NOK 690,000, increasing to NOK 700,000 for applicants with a degree in Medicine or Dentistry and NOK 725,000 for applicants with medical specialization. UiB is located in Bergen, Norway, and the application deadline is 1 October 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Oslo).

Applicants must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within regenerative medicine and dentistry, or have the doctoral thesis submitted by the application deadline. The PhD must be awarded no later than 5 months after the closing date. Relevant research project experience is considered positive. Experience in 3D printing, bioprinting, and culturing mesenchymal stem cells is highly preferable. Experience in material characterization, computational engineering, programming, and computer-aided design is prioritized. Applicants must work independently and in a structured manner, cooperate well with others, and be fluent in oral and written English. Personal suitability is an important selection factor. For specialist applicants, a certificate of specialist approval from the Norwegian Directorate of Health must be included.
