About this position
The Institute for Global Change Biology at the University of Michigan is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a regional biodiversity model intercomparison project (BMIP) focused on projecting species and population responses to climate change and land-use change.
This postdoc will support the sModelProBio working group, a collaborative international synthesis effort involving researchers from the University of Aberdeen, University of Potsdam, University of Connecticut, San Diego State University, the University of Michigan, and other partners. The project sits at the intersection of biodiversity science, ecological modeling, global change ecology, and quantitative/computational research.
Key responsibilities include supporting modelling case studies, developing reproducible analytical workflows, quantifying sources of uncertainty, and contributing to biodiversity projections relevant to conservation planning and policy. The role also offers opportunities for independent projects, training from multiple scientists, and participation in international workshops.
Applicants should have completed a PhD before the start date and should bring strong computational and quantitative skills. Required experience includes programming, especially in R, and ecological modelling. Preferred backgrounds include Bayesian modeling, ecological forecasting, simulation modeling, ecophysiological modeling, hybrid AI-mechanistic models, and software/package development.
The position is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. It offers a competitive salary, health insurance, and an initial one-year appointment with the expectation of a single renewal pending satisfactory performance.
Application review begins September 1, 2026, and applications will be considered until a candidate is hired. Materials required: cover letter, CV with publications and grants, PDF copies of at least three publications, and letters from two references. The application portal and referee upload form are provided in the posting.
