About this position

University College Dublin is advertising two temporary Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 positions in the School of Civil Engineering for a 30-month project.

The roles are part of SYN-Bridge (Synchronized Mobile and Stationary Sensor Networks for Real-Time Bridge Health Assessment), a US–Ireland R&D Partnership project involving University College Dublin, Queen’s University Belfast, and a partner university in the United States. The UCD component is funded by Research Ireland.

The research focuses on bridge health assessment, including damage detection algorithms, identification of vehicle loads, probabilistic assessment of detection reliability, digital-twin modelling, and validation through numerical simulation, laboratory testing, and field trials. The project aims to produce validated methods, shared datasets, and peer-reviewed publications.

This is a postdoctoral opportunity, intended for early-stage researchers who have recently completed a PhD or are moving into a new area. Applicants should note the PD1 eligibility guidance: those who have already completed PD1 at UCD, are about to complete PD1, or whose total postdoctoral experience would exceed 4 years including this post should not apply.

The position offers a fixed salary of €47,273 per annum. Applications close at 12:00 noon local Irish time on 09 November 2026.

To apply, use the vacancy page’s Apply button and submit the application before the deadline. Late applications are not accepted.
