About this position

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Coastal Restoration Law at The University of Queensland (UQ), based at the St Lucia Campus in Brisbane, Australia.

This is a part-time (80%), fixed-term postdoctoral opportunity commencing in early January 2027 and running through December 2028. The role sits within UQ Law School and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, and is part of an Australian Research Council-funded multidisciplinary project on regulatory permitting for marine and coastal restoration.

The research focus is strongly interdisciplinary and connects environmental law, marine and coastal law, regulatory law, law and policy, ecology, modelling, and social science. The successful candidate will undertake applied legal research, identify regulatory requirements and reform opportunities, contribute to project co-design and delivery, and produce outputs for high-quality law and environmental policy journals.

Eligibility highlights include completion or near completion of a PhD in environmental law or a closely related discipline, an emerging research profile, evidence of refereed publications or strong publication potential, conference presentation experience, and the ability to analyse legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks. Collaboration across disciplines is important, and experience with surveys or interviews is desirable. Applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

Funding details include a base salary of $85,372.89 to $113,659.72 plus 17% superannuation. The post is research-focused and also involves supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students where appropriate.

Applications close Monday 9 November 2026 at 11:00pm AEST. Apply via SEEK by submitting a resume, cover letter, and responses to the 'About You' section. Email applications will not be accepted.
