About this position
The University of Michigan Department of Epidemiology is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow in computational epidemiology with a focus on aging epidemiology, Alzheimer's disease, and related dementias. The position supports studies on cognitive transitions across the older adult life course and interventions targeting modifiable dementia risk factors.
The fellow will work on data management, longitudinal cohort analysis, simulation modeling, manuscript preparation, collaboration, mentorship, and grant preparation. The role includes designing and conducting analyses of complex population datasets, building simulation models to project trends and evaluate interventions, and contributing as lead and co-author on scientific papers.
This position is supervised by Dr. Andrew Brouwer and is funded by a National Institutes of Aging grant. The broader research environment includes the Center for Lifecourse Epidemiology & Aging Research, the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, the Center to Accelerate Population Research in Alzheimer's, the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, and the Institute of Gerontology.
Eligibility highlights: a conferred doctorate in epidemiology or another public health science is required; PhD holders in computational or quantitative fields such as statistics or applied mathematics may also apply if they meet the other criteria. Applicants should have a record of accomplishment in computational epidemiology/modeling, prior simulation modeling training, and strong programming skills in R or Python. Experience with longitudinal cohorts, multistate transition models, microsimulation, and aging-related datasets is desirable.
Work location: Ann Arbor Campus, with a hybrid schedule and on-site work expected 2 days per week. The appointment is term-limited for one year with possible extension. The posting indicates applications are reviewed after the minimum posting period and the job may be filled any time after that window.
How to apply: Submit a single document containing a cover letter and current CV through the University of Michigan careers portal. The posting deadline shown is 2026-11-05.
Funding details

What's required
Doctorate in epidemiology or another public health science is required; applicants with a PhD in computational or quantitative fields such as statistics or applied mathematics are also encouraged if they meet the other criteria. The doctorate must be conferred before the fellowship start date. Applicants should have a record of accomplishment in computational epidemiology and modeling applied to aging epidemiology or a related field, prior training or research in simulation modeling, and strong programming skills in R (preferred) or Python. Excellent data management, data analysis, data visualization, and scientific communication skills are expected. Desired but not required experience includes longitudinal cohort analysis, multistate transition models, microsimulation models, and work with NACC UDS, HRS, SWAN, women's health, cardiovascular disease, or biomarkers of ADRD/aging.
How to apply
Submit one document containing a cover letter describing your interest in computational approaches to the epidemiology of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, plus a current CV. Apply through the University of Michigan careers portal.
