About this position

University College Dublin is advertising a temporary 24-month Post-doctoral Research Fellow (Level 1 or 2) in the School of Earth Sciences.

The project, awarded to Dr Koen Torremans as part of the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG), is titled “Enhancing orebody understanding and near-mine mineral exploration at Galmoy”. The research will investigate the structural controls on mineralisation, hydrothermal alteration footprints, and sulphide mineral chemistry at an active Irish-type Zn-Pb mine. The work focuses on integrated analysis of mineralisation and alteration haloes associated with the carbonate-hosted Galmoy deposit, with a strong emphasis on orebody architecture, 3D underground study, and mineral exploration.

This is a research-focused postdoctoral role supporting publication in peer-reviewed journals, development of funding proposals, mentorship of graduate students, and opportunities in research-led teaching. The post is intended for either PD1 researchers (early-stage, typically just after PhD completion or entering a new area) or PD2 researchers who have already completed PD1.

Funding/salary: PD1 salary is €47,273–€53,925 per annum; PD2 salary is €55,399–€60,250 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Deadline: 25 September 2026 at 12:00 noon local Irish time.

Applicants must apply through the vacancy page using the Apply button before the deadline. Late applications are not accepted.
