About this position

The University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and Dr. Tiantian Yang’s research lab are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Hydrology and Water Resources at the Ann Arbor Campus, United States.

This postdoctoral opportunity focuses on advanced research in hydrologic modeling, flood forecasting, extreme weather prediction, snow observation, snow modeling, soil moisture data analytics, and global reservoir/lake system analysis. The role also includes modeling with remotely sensed information and AI/ML approaches to support water resources decision-making.

The fellow will contribute to publications, conference presentations, interdisciplinary workshops, grant proposal development, collaborative research projects, graduate student mentoring, and outreach/engagement with agencies and stakeholders.

Eligibility highlights include a completed PhD (or completion within four months of the start date) in civil/environmental engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, water resources engineering, GIS, remote sensing, atmospheric sciences, climate science, computer science, data science, geography, or a related field. Strong publication records and collaborative experience are required; experience with large-scale datasets, computational models, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, AI/ML, HPC, cloud platforms, or GPU clusters is preferred.

The position is full-time, onsite, and regular, with a salary range of $60,000–$65,000. Applications are reviewed as received and the posting remains open for at least seven calendar days. Apply via the University of Michigan careers portal with a cover letter attached as the first page of the resume.
