About this position

University of Bergen (UiB) is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in landscape multifunctionality of grasslands at the Department of Biological Sciences. The post is part of the Horizon project GrassConnect, funded by the European Commission, and is based in Bergen, Norway.

The successful candidate will join an international and interdisciplinary team working on spatial modelling, ecosystem services, agricultural landscapes, and grassland management. The research will develop a spatially explicit farm-scale multifunctionality model using open remote sensing data, ecological plot-level data, and social science data from European agricultural landscapes, including the GrassConnect Multi-Actor Grassland Hubs (MagHubs). The project aims to understand how management practices affect biodiversity, ecosystem service multifunctionality, and stakeholder outcomes, with an emphasis on sustainable production and practical solutions for European grasslands.

Applicants should have a PhD-equivalent degree in ecology, geospatial analysis, ecosystem services, agronomy, or a related field. Required skills include advanced statistical and/or spatial analysis and experience with tools such as R, ArcGIS, and Python. Strong English skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a large interdisciplinary team. Experience in ecosystem service modelling, European farming systems, and interdisciplinary research is considered an advantage.

The position is fixed term for 3 years, with possible extension in some cases. Salary is NOK 685,900 gross per year upon appointment, plus pension and welfare benefits. The application deadline is 2026-11-15.

To apply, submit your materials via Jobbnorge, including a motivation statement, detailed qualification statement addressing each requirement, CV, transcripts and diplomas, proof of thesis submission if applicable, references/certificates, publication list, and referee contact details.
