About this position

University of Oxford is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Philosophical Moral Psychology based at the Uehiro Oxford Institute in Oxford, United Kingdom.

The fellow will join the Philosophical Moral Psychology Lab and conduct independent and collaborative research under the supervision of Dr Joanna Demaree-Cotton. The role contributes to the Moral Psychology of Autonomy in Healthcare project, with topics including autonomy-based rights in healthcare, inequities in respect for medical autonomy, what it means to be listened to, moral duties of listening, and cross-cultural understandings of medical autonomy and patient consent.

The lab works across ethics, moral philosophy, experimental philosophy, moral psychology, and related interdisciplinary methods. The postholder will collaborate with researchers with expertise in experimental moral psychology and will also provide guidance to junior members of the research group.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD or DPhil in Philosophy or a related field, or be close to completion by the closing date. Essential expertise is in ethics and moral philosophy; interdisciplinary skills and interest in psychologically-informed ethics, philosophically-informed moral psychology, experimental philosophy, or philosophy of psychology are desirable. Strong research ability and collaborative working are expected.

This is a full-time fixed-term postdoctoral contract for 2.5 years. The post states a start date of 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter, and no later than 1 October 2027.
