About this position
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Plant Ecology & Urban Greening at Macquarie University (North Ryde, Sydney, Australia).
This fixed-term, part-time postdoctoral role sits in the School of Natural Sciences and focuses on plant ecology, functional ecology, ecophysiology, plant-water relations, urban greening, and environmental biology. The successful candidate will join a team working on sustainable urban greening solutions and the functional responses of Australian native plants to environmental change.
Research activities include field experimentation across urban and natural ecosystems, tree growth assessment, irrigation and soil moisture monitoring, plant physiological measurements, functional trait sampling, conceptual work in plant trait economics and resource acquisition strategies, quantitative data analysis, reporting, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Collaboration is expected with Principal Investigators Dr. Martyna Kotowska and Prof. Michelle Leishmann, as well as partners including CSIRO and CELESTINO.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in plant ecology, functional ecology, ecophysiology, environmental biology, or a closely related field (awarded or under examination); current work rights in Australia or eligibility for an appropriate work visa; strong organisational skills; ability to work independently and in collaborative teams; and demonstrated scientific writing and communication skills. Desirable experience includes field-based ecological research, plant trait or environmental data collection, plant physiological measurements, root functional ecology, plant-water relations, and R/statistical programming.
Funding: AUD 112,550–127,138 per annum pro-rata at 0.55 FTE, plus 17% superannuation. The appointment runs until August 2028.
