About this position

Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunity at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) in Barcelona, Spain, within the TAGUA group led by Dr Shazia Ruybal-Pesántez.

The project is funded by the la Caixa Foundation through the CONTRA-M project and focuses on statistical methods for malaria transmission network inference. The work develops inferential frameworks for reconstructing malaria transmission chains from epidemiological and genetic data, using network-based and Bayesian statistical modelling, simulation studies, and scientific software development.

The successful candidate will extend a network-based inferential framework, test it through simulation, fit it to data from international partner studies in Africa and the Asia-Pacific, and lead an open-source R package plus reproducible workflows. The role emphasizes methodological innovation and translational public health applications.

Requirements include a PhD awarded or near completion in statistics, epidemiology, mathematics, or a related quantitative field; experience with likelihood-based or Bayesian models; depth in Bayesian inference/computation (e.g. MCMC), infectious disease outbreak inference, or network science; strong R or Python skills; reproducible coding practices; and lead-author peer-reviewed papers or equivalent output. No malaria or genetics background is required.

This is a full-time postdoctoral position for 18 months, renewable subject to funding. Salary amount is not stated. Deadline: 30 October 2026. Applications are submitted via jobs.isglobal.org.
