About this position
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Stem Cell Population Genetics at The University of Queensland, Australia. This full-time fixed-term postdoctoral role is based at the St Lucia Campus within the Institute for Molecular Bioscience and is led by Dr Drew Neavin. The project sits at the intersection of stem cell biology, population genetics, genomics, single-cell genomics, and cell biology, with a strong translational and collaborative research environment.
The Context-dependent Genetics Lab is developing innovative “village-in-a-dish” stem cell culture systems to study how genetic regulation changes across cellular contexts, disease states, and human genetic diversity. The successful candidate will design, lead, and troubleshoot large-scale stem cell experiments, including population-scale iPSC culture, differentiation, and single-cell profiling; analyse single-cell datasets with computational collaborators; publish high-quality outputs; and contribute to protocol development, research translation, and commercialisation activities.
Applicants should have completed, or be near completion of, a PhD in Stem Cell Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Cell Biology, Computational Biology, or a closely related discipline. Required experience includes human pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation, large-scale or technically complex biological experiments, strong publication/presentation record, teamwork in multidisciplinary settings, mentoring or supervision of students/junior researchers, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Highly regarded experience includes single-cell RNA sequencing or multiome approaches, R/Python bioinformatics, and organoid or complex differentiation systems.
Funding and conditions: this is a research-focused academic post at Level A with a salary range of AUD 85,372.89–113,659.72 plus 17% superannuation, offered for up to 2 years. UQ also mentions possible employer-sponsored work rights and relocation support, though upfront costs remain the applicant’s responsibility.
How to apply: submit your application via the UQ Workday careers portal using the provided job link. Upload a resume, cover letter, and responses to the “About You” section. Applications sent by email will not be accepted. The closing date is 4 November 2026 at 11:00 pm AEST.
