Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in Plasma–Thin Film Interactions and Nanotechnology at University of Twente University of Twente in Netherlands

Postdoctoral Research Opportunity at the University of Twente in the XUV Optics Group / MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology for a project on plasma–thin film interactions, hydrogen uptake and diffusion, and surface analysis. The work is connected to next-generation EUV lithography and other nanotechnology applications.

The project investigates how hydrogen plasma, radicals, and ions interact with thin-film coatings under realistic conditions. The postdoc will design and prepare thin-film model systems, use advanced in-situ monitoring methods, and perform neutron reflectometry measurements in collaboration with TU Delft. Data processing and fitting will be a major part of the role, alongside comparison with other hydrogen uptake and diffusion techniques.

Eligibility: PhD in physics, physical chemistry, or materials science (or near completion). Strong interest in plasma or ion-beam interactions with surfaces and thin-film analysis is preferred. Experience with neutron or X-ray reflectometry or advanced characterization is a major advantage. Applicants should be fluent in English and able to work with academic and industrial partners.

Funding and conditions: Full-time postdoc for 1 year. Salary is €4,241–€5,538 gross per month, plus holiday allowance, year-end bonus, pension, campus sports access, leave hours, and development support.
