About this position
Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian is advertising a postdoctoral research position in time-domain astrophysics and gravitational wave astrophysics with Prof. Edo Berger.
The successful candidate will work on observations and data analysis across the electromagnetic spectrum, or on machine learning classification of optical transients. The post also highlights opportunities to use major facilities and datasets including HST, Chandra, Magellan, MMT, Gemini, VLA, and ALMA, and notes Prof. Berger’s connection to the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI).
This is a postdoctoral opening, not a PhD or master’s call. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or equivalent by the appointment date. Experience in radio data analysis, optical/IR spectroscopy, space-based imaging analysis (optical/X-rays), and related time-domain science is encouraged.
The appointment is for 2 years, renewable for a third year by mutual agreement. The nominal start date is September 1, 2027, with flexibility for an earlier or later start. Applications are due by 2026-12-04 for full consideration.
Apply through the ARIeS portal and submit a cover letter, CV, publication list, research statement, and arrange three recommendation letters.
