About this position

Inria is advertising a Post-Doctoral Research Visit in Topology Design for Decentralized Federated Learning within the NEO project-team and the broader FedMalin research initiative.

The project sits at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, machine learning, optimization, network science, and privacy. The research focuses on designing communication topologies for decentralized / peer-to-peer federated learning, balancing convergence speed and communication cost, and studying both static and dynamic topology design. The postdoc will also look at quantifying similarity between local data distributions and extending results to asymmetric communication links and push-sum style distributed optimization.

Supervision is by Giovanni Neglia and Aurélien Bellet. The position is based at Inria in Sophia Antipolis, within the Inria Centre at Université Côte d’Azur.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field. The call prefers candidates with a strong mathematical background in optimization, statistical learning, or privacy, plus solid machine learning knowledge and programming skills. Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus.

Funding: fixed-term contract for 2 years with a gross salary of 2788 EUR/month, plus standard Inria benefits such as subsidized meals, transport reimbursement, leave, teleworking options, and social security coverage.

Deadline: 2026-11-15. Applications must be submitted online through the Inria website.
