About this position

Université de Caen Normandie is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the FluoPHOS project, a 14-month research position based at the BIOTARGEN research unit in Caen, France, starting on 1 November 2026.

The project, supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR), focuses on the biological evaluation of fluorinated oligonucleotides designed for RNAi-based therapeutic strategies. The position sits within a collaborative research effort involving LCMT in Caen, IBMM in Montpellier, and BIOTARGEN in Caen.

The research aims to assess the therapeutic potential of newly developed fluorinated phosphoramidites incorporated into siRNA and miRNA sequences. The goal is to improve thermal stability, nuclease resistance, cellular uptake, and biological efficacy, while reducing off-target effects. The postdoctoral researcher will evaluate the biological activity of these analogs in relevant disease models, including osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and osteoarthritis.

Key experimental systems include osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma cell lines under normoxic and hypoxic conditions, as well as human articular chondrocytes in a cartilage organoid model. The work will examine antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects, target-specific and off-target effects, and maintenance of the chondrocyte phenotype in a hypoxic cartilage tissue engineering context.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Biology or equivalent, with strong experience in osteoarticular disease research. The role requires hands-on expertise in 2D and 3D cell culture, flow cytometry, transfection, protein and nucleic acid extraction, western blotting, qRT-PCR, and functional assays related to proliferation, viability, apoptosis, and RNAi-based loss-of-function studies. Strong communication, reporting, and scientific writing skills are also required, along with French and scientific English proficiency.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral contract. The position is funded through the ANR-supported FluoPHOS project rather than an EU framework programme.

Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] with a CV and cover letter. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their application materials and invited to interview.

What's required

PhD in Biology or equivalent is required, with a strong background in osteoarticular diseases and related research. Required skills include 2D and 3D cell culture of chondrocytes and osteoarticular cell lines under normoxic and hypoxic conditions, cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry, cellular transfection, protein extraction, western blotting, assays for metabolic activity, proliferation, cytotoxicity/viability, and apoptosis, isolation of nucleic acids (large and small RNAs), quantitative RT-qPCR, and loss-of-function studies using siRNA and miRNA. Doctoral research experience in Biological Sciences is required. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent reporting and scientific writing abilities are also required. French language skills and proficiency in scientific English are expected.
