About this position

Ghent University is recruiting a Postdoctoral researcher - Biotechnologie (30169) within the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department BW25 - Biotechnologie, in Belgium. The appointment is within TRASlab (Technology for a Resource Agile Society), a research group focused on sustainable production and treatment processes.

The project is a new microbial protein production collaboration with industrial partners. The successful candidate will contribute to laboratory-based development of microbial protein production processes, with emphasis on optimising growth conditions and improving overall process sustainability. The role is hands-on and research-intensive, with an expectation to work closely with industry and to operate bioreactors at laboratory scale.

This opportunity is explicitly a postdoctoral position; applicants must hold a thesis-based doctorate in bio-engineering, biotechnology, or a related equivalent specialty. Strong English communication skills are required, including clear written reporting, and the team expects willingness to collaborate internationally.

The contract is for a limited duration of 3 months, with the possibility of a further 10-month extension depending on funding decisions. The contract can start 1 September 2026 at the earliest. Remuneration follows salary scale PD1 to PD4. Ghent University also highlights a broad package of staff benefits, including training opportunities, annual leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.

The application deadline is 30 July 2026 at 23:59 Brussels time. Applications must be submitted online through Ghent University’s e-recruitment system; emailed or late applications are not accepted. Required documents include a merged PDF of CV and academic transcript, an application letter, and the transcript of the required degree if already available.
