Postdoctoral Researcher in Adipose Tissue Development Using Lineage Tracing Karolinska Institutet in Sweden

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in Adipose Tissue Development Using Lineage Tracing within the Rydén and Mejhert laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden. The project is part of a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research environment focused on how human white adipocyte function contributes to cardiometabolic disease, including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis.

The successful postdoctoral researcher will investigate how human adipose stem and progenitor cells (ASPCs) contribute to adipocyte formation and tissue organization. The work builds on an established transplantation model that enables formation of human adipose tissue in mice, and on prior identification of distinct human ASPC populations. The main goal is to determine how ASPC identity and adipogenic priming influence cell fate, tissue development, and the ability of transplanted cells to establish adipose tissue in vivo.

The project combines a wide range of experimental approaches, including mammalian cell culture, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), genetic manipulation, lineage tracing, in vivo transplantation, tissue imaging, immunostaining, and microscopy. Single-cell and spatial profiling will be used to connect experimental findings to cellular states and tissue organization, with close collaboration from a dedicated bioinformatician handling computational analyses. The postdoc will also help validate spatial transcriptomics results through immunostaining and imaging-based analysis.

This position is well suited to candidates with a background in experimental cell biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, or related areas. Strong hands-on experience with cell culture and molecular methods is expected, and expertise in flow cytometry/cell sorting, mouse models, CRISPR-based manipulation, stable cell labeling, lineage tracing, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, or quantitative image analysis will be especially valuable. The role offers significant scope to contribute to experimental design, method development, data generation, interpretation, and the development of an independent research profile.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent foreign degree at the time of appointment. Having completed the doctorate within the last three years is an advantage. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
