About this position

Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in AI-based Energy Management of Resilient Microgrids with Second-Life Battery for the ENERGY-RESILIENT-UA project.

The project focuses on resilient, low-carbon energy systems for critical community services in Ukraine, using second-life electric vehicle batteries, solar PV generation, and advanced AI-based control. The successful candidate will work mainly from Luxembourg and will not be required to travel to Ukraine.

Research topics include: AI-based and safety-aware control algorithms, grid-forming and resilient control under disturbances and outages, battery state-of-charge management, reliability and lifetime-aware operation, microgrid and PV-battery modelling, real-time simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and performance analysis against diesel-based backup solutions.

Required background: a PhD in electrical engineering, energy systems, control engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field. Strong experience in at least one of the following is expected: power systems and microgrids, battery energy management systems, renewable energy integration, control systems, or AI/ML for energy applications. Programming in Python and/or MATLAB/Simulink is expected. Experience with simulation tools, optimization frameworks, battery operation, BMS, ageing, or safety constraints is an advantage.

Language and collaboration: English fluency is required; French and other languages are a plus. The role involves remote collaboration with academic, industrial, and humanitarian partners.

Contract and benefits: fixed-term contract for 20 months, based in Belvaux/Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. The post includes a gross monthly salary range, 13-month pay, statutory health insurance, paid leave, flexible working hours, and a home-working policy.

How to apply: submit the application online via the HR system with a motivation letter, CV, publication list, and two references. Applications are reviewed continuously until the position is filled.
