About this position
Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for AI-based Energy Management of Resilient Microgrids with Second-Life Battery under the ENERGY-RESILIENT-UA project.
The project focuses on supporting vulnerable communities in Ukraine through resilient, low-carbon energy systems that combine second-life EV batteries, solar PV, and AI-based control. The research is based in Belvaux / Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, and the work is mainly remote technical support, modelling, algorithm development, simulation, and validation. No travel to Ukraine is required.
The role is highly relevant for candidates with interests in electrical engineering, energy systems, control engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics. The successful candidate will develop and implement AI-based and safety-aware control algorithms for microgrids, design grid-forming and resilient control strategies, optimize battery operation, build simulation models, validate solutions using real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and contribute to technical reports and scientific publications.
Preferred experience includes microgrid modelling and control, battery energy storage systems, renewable energy integration, AI-based optimization, reinforcement learning, predictive control, data-driven control, real-time simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB/Simulink are an asset. Fluency in English is required; French is considered a plus.
This is a fixed-term full-time postdoctoral position for 20 months. The post includes a gross monthly salary range (stated in the advert), paid over 13 months, plus standard LIST benefits such as paid leave, public holidays, statutory health insurance, flexible working hours, and a home-working policy.
To apply, submit a motivation letter, scientific CV, publication list, and two references through the official online HR system. Applications are reviewed continuously until the position is filled.
