About this position
The BioGlue Centre at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a project on AI-driven design and modelling of bio-based adhesives.
This postdoctoral opportunity sits at the intersection of materials science, polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, and computer science. The project aims to accelerate the development of sustainable bio-based adhesives and next-generation wood products for the circular bioeconomy by combining experimental formulation work, molecular-level characterization, machine learning, and advanced data analytics.
You will work on building a structured formulation library, mapping key performance indicators, and developing predictive models that link chemical descriptors to adhesive properties. The research also includes data-driven optimization strategies, validation on industrially relevant substrates, and collaboration with academic and industrial partners. The broader goal is to create a transferable predictive toolbox for sustainable adhesive design.
The position is hosted within the BioGlue-Centre, a Vinnova competence centre focused on bio-based adhesives and sustainable industry. The centre connects SLU, KTH, Linnaeus University, and industrial partners across furniture, packaging, and construction value chains.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD obtained within the last three years in materials science, polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field. Strong expertise in polymer formulation and structure-property relationships is required, along with experience in advanced material characterization. Experience with modelling, data analysis, or machine learning is a strong merit. Excellent English and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment are expected.
Employment details: temporary employment for 24 months, full-time, with the possibility of extension. The position may start by agreement but no later than 1 January 2027.
Application deadline: 16 August 2026.
