About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher position in Conversational AI and LLMs at the University of St.Gallen (School of Computer Science), Switzerland, within the SNSF-funded CREST-AI project.
The project focuses on natural language processing, large language models, dialogue systems, natural language generation, and reinforcement learning. The successful candidate will help develop grounded, adaptive conversational systems that tailor explanations to users’ understanding, with legal language as a testbed. The role includes research on conversational AI, coordination of selected research activities, building and evaluating a prototype through simulations and user studies, publishing at leading NLP/AI venues, and presenting at international conferences.
You will work closely with Prof. Christina Niklaus and collaborate with researchers at St.Gallen and the University of Zurich, alongside a fellow postdoc working on interpretable models of users’ knowledge and understanding. The project is interdisciplinary and connects AI with philosophy and law.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in computer science, computational linguistics, or a related field completed by the start date; strong Python and machine learning skills; research experience in NLP/LLMs/dialogue systems; strong publication record; excellent English; German is a plus.
Funding: SNSF-funded position with competitive salary, funded conference participation, and project-funded compute time.
