Postdoctoral Researcher in Cryptography and Privacy at the University of Luxembourg

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the CryptoLux Group led by Prof. Alex Biryukov. The group’s research spans symmetric cryptography, cryptography for blockchain and FinTech, and privacy applications, with particular attention to lightweight and ultra-lightweight cryptography, algebraic and arithmetization-friendly cryptography for zero-knowledge and MPC applications, privacy-enhancing technologies, and post-quantum cryptography.

The successful candidate will lead high-impact research in cryptography and privacy, contribute teaching at bachelor, master, and PhD levels (up to 90 hours per year), support the daily supervision of PhD and MSc students, and help write research funding proposals. The postdoctoral fellow will report directly to the group head, Prof. Dr. Alex Biryukov.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related area such as applied mathematics. A strong publication record is expected, especially publications in A* venues in cryptography or information security. Excellent English proficiency at C1 level is required.

The position is based at the Belval Campus in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, within a modern, multilingual, and international university environment. The appointment is a fixed-term 24-month contract with a possible extension up to 5 years in total. The role is full-time (40 hours per week). No application deadline is stated; applications are processed upon receipt, and early application is encouraged.

To apply, candidates must submit a CV with full bibliography, a cover letter explaining motivation and fit with the research topic/project, PhD diploma or expected defense information, degree certificates and transcripts, the names and contact details of up to three referees, and a publication list including open-access links where available.
