About this position

Maastricht University is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher position in deep brain stimulation (DBS) within its neuromodulation research line. The project focuses on developing and applying closed-loop DBS systems, with emphasis on identifying and validating neurophysiological biomarkers. Research directions include DBS for tinnitus and the modulation of non-motor symptoms such as mood, cognition, and perception.

The successful candidate will join the Mental Health and Neuroscience Research Institute (MHeNs) and the Brain and Nerve Institute (HZC, MUMC+) at Maastricht University / Maastricht UMC+. The role combines independent research, experimental design and coordination with patients, analysis of invasive and non-invasive neurophysiological data, and translation of findings into clinical applications. The post also includes teaching and supervision of bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a completed PhD in a relevant field (e.g. neuroscience, medicine, biomedical technology, or related area), have strong interest or experience in DBS, and possess excellent programming skills in Python and/or Matlab. Experience with signal analysis, data science, and neurophysiological data analysis is preferred. Dutch and English proficiency at minimum C1 level is required.

Funding and contract: this is a paid postdoctoral appointment at 0.8–1.0 FTE for one year, with the possibility of extension by up to two additional years. Salary is listed at €4,925–€6,682 gross per month for full-time employment, plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus.
