About this position

The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Econometrics to join its Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF). The position is based within the Department of Economics and Management (DEM), offering a vibrant academic environment with strong European and international connections. The university is renowned for its multilingual and interdisciplinary character, benefiting from proximity to European institutions, Luxembourg's financial centre, and a dynamic business community.

Under the supervision of Professor Gautam Tripathi, the postdoctoral researcher will focus on microeconometrics, either theoretical or applied, with a particular emphasis on methodological development. Responsibilities include conducting independent research, writing academic papers for peer-reviewed journals, participating in conferences, and engaging actively in departmental seminars and workshops. The role also involves assisting with teaching activities (one to three hours per week) and tutoring students, fostering interaction with the Empirical Methods Group and PhD students working on applied projects.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics (obtained within the last five years), specializing in Microeconometrics. A strong interest in methodological issues, machine learning, and high-dimensional models is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct autonomous research at a postdoctoral level, work both independently and collaboratively, and possess fluency in English.

The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, inclusive, and dynamic research environment, with staff from over 90 countries and membership in The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities. The campus features excellent infrastructure and strong links to professional sectors, including the Luxembourg labour market, European institutions, and a wide range of non-academic partners.

Applications should be submitted online via the HR system. Required documents include a CV, cover letter detailing motivation and alignment with the research topic, PhD diploma or expected defense date, transcript of university-level courses, list of publications, and three letters of recommendation. Early applications are encouraged as review begins upon receipt. The university promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

This is a fixed-term contract for 16 months, full-time (40 hours per week), located at the Weicker Building. For further information, applicants may contact Professor Gautam Tripathi. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
