About this position
Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg (Germany) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in Environmental Geochemistry for the Applied Geochemistry group at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
The position focuses on environmental geochemistry, biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology, organic geochemistry, and related interdisciplinary work on the geochemical cycling of elements in soils, sediments, and surface waters. The group studies processes involving iron, carbon, sulfur, and trace elements, especially in environments affected by human activity and climate change.
The postdoc will initiate and conduct research projects, develop analytical approaches, supervise and mentor students, contribute to B.Sc. and M.Sc. teaching, and help secure third-party funding for independent research. The lab offers state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation and experience with synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques.
Eligibility highlights: a qualified PhD in a relevant field is required; strong interest in interdisciplinary environmental geochemistry is expected; English proficiency is essential and German is an asset.
Funding and contract: part-time 75% position, initially for 1.5 years, temporary replacement for parental leave, with salary according to E13 TV-L.
Application deadline: 2026-09-23. Applicants should submit a single PDF in English via the university portal, including a cover letter, CV, publication list, a 1–2 page research outline, and two professional references.
Contact: Prof. Kerstin Hockmann, Institute for Geo- and Environmental Sciences, University of Freiburg.
