The USask Fruit Program is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on flowering regulation, frost avoidance, and frost tolerance in fruit crops such as grapes and haskap. The project is supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Anže Švara and combines field, greenhouse, laboratory, and computational research.
Research themes include fruit breeding and genetics, flowering biology, frost tolerance, advanced plant phenotyping, metabolomics, physiological analysis, and high-throughput data analysis/workflow development. The role is designed for someone interested in climate-resilient fruit crops for northern regions and collaborative research with breeders, horticultural scientists, and industry partners.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD awarded in 2022 or later in Plant Breeding, Plant Phenotyping, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field. Strong quantitative skills, experience with plant stress tolerance research, and familiarity with R programming and large datasets are desirable. Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams are required. A valid Class 5 driver’s license is an asset. Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
Duration: 2 years (2026–2028), with a possibility of extension. Candidates should be available to start in the second half of 2026.
