The USask Fruit Program is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on
flowering regulation
,
frost avoidance
, and
frost tolerance
in fruit crops such as
grapes
and
haskap
. The project combines
fruit breeding and genetics
,
plant phenotyping
,
metabolomics
, and
physiological analysis
across field, greenhouse, laboratory, and computational settings.
The position is supervised by
Assistant Professor Dr. Anže Švara
and is based in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
. The researcher will contribute to experiments, sampling, method development for frost damage assessment, data processing, scalable analytical workflows, publications, reporting, and collaboration with breeders, horticultural scientists, growers, and industry partners.
Eligibility highlights:
PhD awarded in 2022 or later in Plant Breeding, Plant Phenotyping, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field; strong English communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams; experience with plant stress tolerance research is preferred; R programming, large datasets, and large-scale data analysis are desirable; a valid Class 5 driver’s license is an asset. Canadian citizens and permanent residents receive priority consideration.
Funding and duration:
This is a 2-year postdoctoral appointment (2026–2028) with a possibility of extension. The post mentions that candidates with their own funding are also welcome to collaborate, but no stipend amount is stated.
