About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in Human Stem Cell Biology and Adipose Tissue Development within the Rydén and Mejhert laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden (location: Solna). The project focuses on how distinct human adipose stem and progenitor cell (ASPC) populations determine cell fate and tissue organization, with strong relevance to metabolic disease and human white adipocyte function.

The research combines human stem cell biology, adipose tissue development, cell culture, FACS, genetic manipulation, lineage tracing, in vivo transplantation, and tissue imaging. The successful candidate will also work with single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, in close collaboration with a bioinformatician, and validate findings using immunostaining and microscopy. The role offers the chance to take a leading part in experimental design, method development, data generation, and interpretation in an interdisciplinary translational research environment.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent foreign degree by the employment decision date. Strong experience in experimental cell biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, mammalian cell culture, and molecular techniques is expected. Experience with flow cytometry/cell sorting, mouse models, transplantation or tissue regeneration, CRISPR-based manipulation, stable cell labeling, lineage tracing, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, and quantitative image analysis is highly desirable. English proficiency is required.

The position is a temporary full-time postdoctoral appointment with salary set according to collective agreements. Application materials must include a CV, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Apply through the Varbi recruitment system by 2026-11-18.

What's required

A PhD or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required by the employment decision date. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in experimental cell biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, or a related field, with hands-on mammalian cell culture and molecular techniques. Experience with flow cytometry/cell sorting, mouse models, cell transplantation or tissue regeneration, genetic manipulation (including CRISPR, stable labeling, or lineage tracing), immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, and quantitative image analysis is highly valued. Strong independence, scientific rigor, collaboration skills, and proficiency in written and spoken English are required. Completion of the doctorate within the last three years is an advantage.

How to apply

Prepare the required documents in English or Swedish: a complete CV with thesis defense date and thesis title, a complete publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system before the deadline.
