About this position
Toyota Technological Institute is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Knowledge and Data Engineering Laboratory in Aichi, Japan. The position is tied to the NEDO project “Project to Develop a Multimodal Foundation Model for AI Robots and Physical AI”, and the selected researcher will work exclusively on this project.
The research focus is on foundational technologies for new language generation AI, including diffusion language models and flow-based models. Planned topics include pre-training, distillation, acceleration, improvement of large-scale models, multi-GPU training, KV caching, data synthesis, external knowledge utilization, multimodal integration, and architecture improvement. The lab aims for advanced research outcomes suitable for top international conferences.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a Ph.D. or expect to complete one by the appointment date. Required skills include experience with PyTorch or Hugging Face, foundational knowledge of LLMs, and English communication/documentation skills. Preferred experience includes Linux-based cloud servers, multi-GPU optimization, diffusion models, large-scale datasets, and conference publication/presentation experience.
Funding: full-time non-tenure-track postdoc with an annual salary of 4–8 million yen, monthly salary of 362,000–550,000 yen, and a performance bonus of up to 500,000 yen per year. Relocation support and visa sponsorship are available.
