About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning Potentials and Molecular Simulation at the University of Montpellier, France.
This postdoctoral opportunity is based in the interdisciplinary research environment of the LMGC and L2C in Montpellier, where condensed matter physics, mechanics, materials science, and molecular simulation come together in the MINT project (Multidisciplinary Insights into Nanopore pressure due to ion Trapping). The selected researcher will work within an international collaborative network and will have access to national high-performance computing resources including IDRIS, TGCC, and CINES.
The main scientific goal is to develop and apply machine-learning potentials, especially MACE and related approaches such as DeepMD, to model complex silicate gel/water/ion interfaces. The research aims to quantify the molecular origins of disjoining pressure and ion-correlation pressure, linking electronic structure calculations with atomistic and molecular-scale mechanics all the way toward the macroscopic degradation of materials.
Key activities include development and validation of ML potentials for silicate systems, large-scale ab initio and classical molecular dynamics simulations, enhanced sampling methods such as metadynamics, and integration of simulation outputs with electronic-structure-informed models. The project is strongly computational and sits at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and materials research.
The position is a full-time temporary contract for 18 months with a net monthly salary between €2,200 and €2,380. It is open to candidates with a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Theoretical/Computational Chemistry, Materials Science, or Computational Mechanics. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected] and should include a CV, a short research statement, and contact details for 2-3 referees.
Deadline: 15 November 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Paris).
