About this position

Postdoctoral position in Mathematics with a focus on Complex Geometry at the University of Gothenburg (Department of Mathematical Sciences, in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology), Sweden.

The project is part of Symmetrizations of Kähler manifolds, supported by the Göran Gustafsson Foundation, and is centered on degenerations of special Kähler manifolds, especially compact Calabi-Yau manifolds near large complex structure limit points. The research connects Kähler geometry, Monge-Ampère equations, optimal transport, non-Archimedean geometry, theta functions, and the Gross-Siebert programme, with applications to metric mirror symmetry.

The successful candidate will join the complex geometry research group and collaborate with project leader David Witt Nyström. The role includes independent research and, if desired, up to 10% teaching and supervision.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree (or equivalent) completed before appointment. Candidates who earned their PhD within the last three years are preferred, though later completion may be considered under special grounds. Strong research ability, independence, collaboration skills, communication skills, and fluency in English are expected. Prior experience in Kähler geometry, Monge-Ampère equations, PDE degenerations, and optimal transport is highly desirable.

This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment for two years, starting in January 2027. Applications must be submitted via the university recruitment portal by 5 November 2026.

What's required

Applicants must have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree, and this requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. Preference is given to candidates who completed the degree no more than three years before the end of the application period, though exceptions may apply for special grounds. Strong research excellence is expected, along with highly motivated, independent work, ability to collaborate and communicate, and fluency in English. Experience with Kähler geometry, Monge-Ampère equations, degenerations of PDEs, optimal transport theory, and familiarity with the Gross-Siebert programme are highly desirable.

How to apply

Apply through the University of Gothenburg recruitment portal using the Apply button. Submit a personal letter, CV with publications and conference talks, a two-page research statement, contact details for two referees, attested education and certificate copies, and up to five publications. Ensure the application is complete and submitted by the deadline.
