About this position
INRAE CARRTEL in Thonon-les-Bains (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a project on national-scale modelling of lake warming and water-level dynamics under climate change.
The project focuses on lake ecosystems, hydrology, limnology, climate science, environmental modelling, remote sensing, and numerical/hydrodynamic modelling. The successful candidate will develop and apply 1D lake models (GLM) to simulate the thermal structure of more than 210 reservoirs, using in situ observations, satellite data, and national datasets. The work will assess how lake warming and water-level management practices influence reservoir responses under future climate conditions.
The position is hosted by the CARRTEL research unit at INRAE, within the Pôle ECLA network, in collaboration with the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB), Université Savoie Mont Blanc, and other partners. The environment is interdisciplinary and collaborative, with opportunities to contribute to scientific publications and operational datasets for researchers and environmental managers.
Funding: 12 months already funded, with a possibility to extend up to 15 months. The post is a temporary position with remuneration according to the INRAE salary scale.
Eligibility highlights: PhD preferred (relevant experience may be considered), training in aquatic modelling is desirable, GLM knowledge is a plus, and programming skills in Python and/or R are required. French is helpful but not mandatory.
Deadline: 2026-08-20. Applications may be reviewed early in two rounds, so early submission is encouraged.
How to apply: Send a CV and cover letter by email to [email protected]. Explain how your profile fits the project and name the file postdoc_2026_PREDILAC_NameFirstname.pdf. Applications may be written in English or French.
