About this position

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuroimmunology for a clinically embedded, translational project at the interface of the clinic and the laboratory.

The role sits within the Antibody & Brain Lab and the DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit BECAUSE-Y (Berlin Center for the Diagnosis, Understanding and Treatment of Antibody-mediated Neurological Diseases). The project focuses on antibody-mediated and autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, using longitudinal patient sampling, paired cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood analysis, single-cell immunology, antibody cloning, and translational immunotherapy.

The successful candidate will lead the group’s single-cell workflow across sample processing, sorting strategy, data generation, and analysis. Core tasks include multicolour flow cytometry panel design and optimisation, cell sorting, generation of single-cell transcriptomic and paired BCR/TCR repertoire datasets, and integration of flow cytometry, transcriptomic, and repertoire data to study disease-associated lymphocyte populations and clonal dynamics over time.

This is a strong opportunity for researchers with backgrounds in immunology, neuroscience, systems biology, molecular biology, or related fields, especially those with hands-on experience in primary human immune cells, scRNA-seq, immune repertoire sequencing, and analysis in R or Python (e.g. Seurat, Scanpy). The post also offers room to develop an independent research question, present at international conferences, lead manuscripts, and supervise doctoral and medical students.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD, strong adaptive immunology background, excellent organisation, and fluent English. German is not required. Desirable experience includes B cell biology, antibody engineering, low-input clinical material, longitudinal cohort work, CITE-seq/cell hashing, and neuroinflammatory or autoimmune disease research.

What's required

PhD in Immunology, Neuroscience, Systems Biology, Molecular Biology or a related discipline; strong background in immunology, especially adaptive immune responses. Extensive hands-on experience with primary human immune cells and proven expertise in multicolour or spectral flow cytometry, including panel design, optimisation, cell sorting and data analysis. Hands-on experience with single-cell technologies including scRNA-seq and immune repertoire sequencing, covering sample processing, sorting strategy and preparation for sequencing. Independent analysis of single-cell datasets in R or Python (e.g. Seurat, Scanpy), including quality control, integration, clustering, cell type annotation and differential expression. Excellent organisational skills, ability to run several projects in parallel, and fluency in spoken and written English; German is not required. Desirable experience includes B cell biology, antibody responses or antibody engineering, low-input clinical material, BCR/TCR repertoire and clonal lineage analysis, longitudinal sample collections and batch design, CITE-seq/cell hashing/multiplexing, and neuroinflammatory, autoimmune or post-infectious disease research.
