About this position

Heidelberg University in Germany is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in paleomagnetism and earth magnetism within the Geodynamics Group at the Institute of Earth Sciences.

The successful candidate will help supervise and advance the new heiMAG Laboratory for Earth Magnetism, develop an independent and internationally visible research program, and connect high-quality magnetic measurements to questions in tectonics, geodynamics, paleogeography, geomagnetic-field evolution, and Earth history.

The role includes research, publication, collaboration with national and international partners, method development, data-processing workflows, quality assurance, training students and early-career researchers, and teaching up to 4 SWS per semester at full-time employment.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in geosciences, geophysics, or a closely related field, plus a strong publication record and hands-on experience with paleomagnetic or rock-magnetic instrumentation, demagnetisation procedures, magnetic-property measurements, quantitative analysis, and relevant scientific software or programming.

The position is paid according to TV-L E13, is 100% full-time, and is initially limited to three years, with part-time options available. The application deadline is 30 October 2026.

To apply, submit a single PDF containing a motivation letter, CV with publication list and teaching portfolio, research statement, and certificates, and send it to Prof. Dr. Derya Gürer at [email protected].
