About this position
McGill University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pandemic Prevention and Global Health Security within the Pandemic and Emergency Readiness Lab (PERL) in the Department of Global and Public Health.
The position supports a CIHR STEPS Team Grant focused on strengthening Canada’s public health emergency response systems and developing innovative civilian surge capacity models. The research program spans public health, health policy, political science, emergency management, health economics, and mixed-methods research.
The fellow will work under Professor Prativa Baral and collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers, policymakers, public health leaders, and community partners. Research activities include policy mapping, economic evaluation, participatory co-design, qualitative interviews, focus groups, national survey design and analysis, and knowledge mobilization for federal and provincial audiences.
Key themes include governance of civilian reserve models, financing and cost-effectiveness of civilian versus military surge, workforce co-design, and qualitative assessment of feasibility, acceptability, equity implications, and barriers/enablers to participation. The role emphasizes policy-relevant outputs such as peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, toolkits, and implementation reports.
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in a relevant field, have experience with qualitative or mixed-methods research, strong analytical and writing skills, and a publication record. Experience in emergency preparedness, disaster research, civil protection, or health systems strengthening is highly desirable. Bilingual English/French is strongly preferred, and the successful candidate must be resident in Québec.
This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment at McGill College 2001 in Montreal, Canada, with a salary of $75,000/year. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with a stated deadline of 2026-10-30.
