About this position

CNRS is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in passive wireless implantable biosensors using backscattering at the Institut d'électronique et des technologies du numérique (IETR) in Rennes, France.

The project focuses on developing a wireless, battery-free implantable interface for closed-loop neuromodulation and real-time, minimally invasive brain monitoring in freely moving animals. The researcher will help co-develop a new class of battery-free implantable devices, including backscatter-modulation wireless communication, co-design of front-end electronics and miniature RF antennas, prototyping and characterization of the wireless link, sensor-resonator coupling optimization, and in vitro/ex vivo testing.

Research keywords: RF circuits, analog electronics, electromagnetism, antenna design, wireless sensing, bioelectronics, implantable devices, backscattering, neuromodulation.

Eligibility: PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or Technology. The post asks for basic French and welcomes candidates with strong experience in RF circuits/analog electronics, electromagnetism/antenna design, and wireless sensing/bioelectronics. Experience with implantable devices or organic electronics is a plus, but not mandatory.

Funding and contract: Temporary full-time position (35 hours/week), starting 1 Dec 2026. The role is funded through the EU Research Framework Programme (Horizon 2020).

Deadline: 2 Oct 2026 at 23:59 UTC.

How to apply: Submit an application through the CNRS vacancy page. An Euraxess link is also provided for viewing or applying.
