About this position

The Institute of Philosophy in Zagreb is offering one fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher / Senior Assistant position in the History of Philosophy Department. This is a full-time, temporary academic appointment in the humanities, with a planned start date of 1 January 2027. The post is based at the Institute of Philosophy, Zagreb, Croatia.

The successful candidate will work within an existing research project currently conducted at the Institute. Applicants must identify the project they wish to join and explain in a motivation letter how their own research will contribute to that project. The Institute indicates a preference for candidates with a PhD and a publication record in one or more of the following areas: late ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, and early modern philosophy.

The role is advertised as a Recognised Researcher (R2) postdoc position and is aimed at researchers in philosophy, especially those with strengths in the historical development of philosophical ideas. The department focus suggests a strong fit for scholars working on the history of philosophy, textual interpretation, intellectual history, and related humanities research.

Applicants must meet the general legal requirements under Croatian higher education and scientific activity regulations, as well as the Institute’s additional criteria for associate positions. The application package is substantial and should include: a curriculum vitae with previous research activity, a list of scientific/professional/public outreach publications, proof of doctoral degree, a motivation letter connecting the applicant’s research to the selected project, one research article already published or accepted for publication, and a four-year work plan. All materials must be submitted electronically.

The selection process includes shortlisting, an interview with the Selection Committee, and a 30-minute presentation before the Scientific Council on the applicant’s current research and proposed four-year work plan. The successful candidate will be employed subject to a six-month probationary period. Applicants will be informed of the outcome via the Institute’s website after the procedure concludes.

Applications should be sent by email to [email protected] before 13 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Zagreb). The position is at the Institute of Philosophy, Ulica grada Vukovara 54, Zagreb, Croatia.
