About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Biology/Biochemistry and Metabolomics at Université de Strasbourg, France.

The BotaniChem project (“Unlocking Strasbourg’s Botanical Garden Chemodiversity”) explores the metabolic diversity of plant collections at the Strasbourg Botanical Garden. The work is carried out with teams from the CNRS Institute of Molecular Plant Biology, including the groups led by Prof. Emmanuel Gaquerel and Dr. Hubert Schaller, in collaboration with the botanical garden collections team.

The postdoctoral researcher will help select and sample plant species, manage metadata and traceability, prepare samples (freeze-drying, grinding, extraction), build a physical collection of plant material and extracts, and perform mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. The role also includes processing, annotating, and analysing metabolomic data using dedicated pipelines such as molecular networking, spectral database searches, in silico annotation, and metabolic diversity indices.

This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates with expertise in plant biology, biochemistry, metabolomics, mass spectrometry, and plant metabolism. The position is full-time, temporary, and lasts 12 months, starting 1 December 2026.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Plant Biology or Biochemistry by the start date; recent PhD graduate preferred; strong experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry metabolomics; good scientific writing and communication skills in French and English.

Deadline: 14 October 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Paris).

How to apply: Use the Université de Strasbourg recruitment page or the Euraxess application page. Check the attached recruitment templates/forms and submit before the deadline.

What's required

PhD in Plant Biology or Biochemistry awarded by the start date (1 December 2026). The candidate should be a recent PhD graduate who defended less than a year ago and have in-depth experience in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics across the full workflow from sample preparation to data analysis. Strong knowledge of plant metabolism is desirable, along with experience preparing plant extracts, high-resolution mass spectrometry metabolite characterization, molecular networking, spectral database searching, in silico annotation, and metabolic diversity indices. Scientific writing/publication experience, independence, teamwork, rigor, and good written and oral communication in French and English are required.

How to apply
