About this position

IÉSEG School of Management is recruiting a 24-month fully funded postdoctoral researcher in regional science, economic geography, and territorial studies for the Horizon Europe project JUSTPLACE (Justice and Participation through Localised and Citizen-Centred Engagement).

The position is based on the Lille campus and starts in November 2026. The project examines how territorial inequalities, perceptions of injustice, democratic participation, and place-based public policies interact across European territories. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to comparative territorial analysis, literature reviews, data collection and analysis, scientific deliverables, policy outputs, and academic publications, while also supporting selected scientific and operational coordination tasks within the consortium.

Relevant research interests include regional science, economic geography, territorial justice, spatial justice, territorial inequalities, democratic dynamics, left-behind places, territorial cohesion, and place-based public policy. The role is especially suited to candidates with experience in quantitative and qualitative methods, spatial analysis, comparative research, and European research projects.

Eligibility requires a completed PhD by the time of appointment in regional science, economic geography, geography, spatial planning, territorial economics, urban studies, political geography, or a closely related field. Strong English academic writing skills are required; French is an advantage but not mandatory.

Funding includes a competitive gross salary, possible 12-month extension, and additional benefits such as French social security, complementary health insurance, meal vouchers, pension contributions, relocation allowance, housing search assistance, and research support for conferences and data collection.

To apply, candidates must submit a single PDF with a cover letter (3000–5000 words), detailed CV, one writing sample/publication, and a letter of support from at least two referees. Applications are reviewed until the position is filled.
