About this position

The Department of Physics at the University of Jyväskylä is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Scanning Probe Microscopy of Low-Dimensional Quantum Materials. This fixed-term appointment runs for 2 years and is linked to the research project Artificial Unconventional Superconductivity at the Atomic Scale (Academy Research Fellowship no. 380706).

The successful candidate will join the Synthetic Quantum Materials group and contribute to experimental condensed matter physics research on 2-dimensional van der Waals materials. The work includes fabrication by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and atomic-scale characterization of electronic properties using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (LT-STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).

The position is well suited to candidates with prior hands-on experience in scanning probe methods, cryogenic systems, and ultra-high-vacuum environments, with MBE experience preferred. A completed PhD is required before the start date. The role begins on 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, with a six-month trial period at the start of employment.

Funding is provided through the research project, and the salary is set by the Finnish University Salary System at approximately €3,600–€4,800 per month gross, depending on qualifications and experience, plus a holiday bonus. Relocation support is available for candidates moving from abroad.

Applications must be submitted online by 2026-07-26. Applicants must have a functioning ORCID profile with public publications listed, and should upload a CV, motivation letter, publication list, highest degree certificate, and contact details for three references. Applications sent by email are not accepted.

For further information, please contact Academy Research Fellow Somesh C. Ganguli or Associate Professor Kezilebieke A. Shawulienu at the University of Jyväskylä.

Funding details
