About this position
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), based in Barcelona, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Pluripotency for organ regeneration Research Group. This is a full-time postdoctoral position in an interdisciplinary, international research environment focused on bioengineering and nanomedicine.
The successful candidate will work on developing robust and reproducible human organoid models to study tissue development and genetic/systemic disease conditions. The research includes the generation of renal, cardiac, and neural derivatives from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), the development of genome-engineered hPSCs to model disease mechanisms, and the design of quantitative and qualitative assays to monitor molecular, metabolic, and cell-cell interaction changes during organoid development. The project combines stem cell biology with engineering approaches, including 2D and 3D cell culture, microenvironments, biomaterials, microfabrication, and organ-on-chip technologies.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, biomedicine, or a closely related field. Strong prior experience in hPSC culture and differentiation, confocal microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and molecular biology is required. A high level of English is expected. Additional experience in custom scripting for image processing/quantification and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing will be considered an advantage.
Contract and conditions: the position is offered as a full-time open-ended contract linked to technical and scientific activities and budget duration. IBEC highlights family-friendly measures, flexible working hours, paid holidays, personal leave days, a strong training offer, mobility grants, a mentoring programme, and support for international researchers with visas and relocation to Barcelona.
Application deadline: 20 October 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Madrid). Applications must be submitted online via the IBEC careers portal. Only applications received before the deadline will be reviewed. For enquiries, contact [email protected]. Reference: PD-EG.
IBEC is an interdisciplinary research institute located in the Barcelona Science Park and is established by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the University of Barcelona, and the Technical University of Catalonia. The institute emphasises equality, diversity, and open, merit-based recruitment.
