About this position
The Medical University of Vienna is advertising a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position in tissue regeneration and stem cell metabolism within the Center for Pathobiochemistry and Genetics / Institute of Medical Genetics, based in Vienna, Austria. This postdoctoral role is a fixed-term appointment for two years, with the possibility of extension, and is intended for a highly motivated researcher interested in the intersection of regeneration, metabolism, and epigenetic control.
The project will investigate how metabolic processes regulate tissue regeneration across different organs, with a particular focus on nuclear metabolic and epigenetic interactions that support changes in cellular state, proliferation, and tissue repair. The work builds on established liver regeneration research and will extend to additional regenerative models such as muscle, kidney, and pancreas. The successful candidate will help establish and apply complementary murine regeneration models together with selected stem cell models to identify tissue-specific mechanisms of regeneration. There is also scope to develop an independent research direction within the project.
A major strength of the position is access to established metabolic infrastructure, including state-of-the-art metabolomics and in vivo stable isotope tracing using an Orbitrap mass spectrometer, alongside existing liver regeneration models. Other organ regeneration systems will need to be developed and optimized, offering an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher who enjoys experimental model building and cross-disciplinary work.
The university is seeking applicants with a PhD or equivalent in regenerative biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biomedicine, or a closely related field, together with a strong publication record appropriate to career stage. Early-career postdocs are welcome. Essential experience includes research in tissue regeneration or stem cell biology, substantial experience with mouse models, strong molecular and cellular biology skills, and the ability to independently design experiments, troubleshoot, analyse data, and develop new approaches. Desirable experience includes surgical or microsurgical mouse work, experience with kidney, skeletal muscle, or pancreatic regeneration models, and omics data analysis in metabolomics, proteomics, or epigenomics.
The position offers a competitive salary of at least Euro 5,014 gross per month (14x per year) on a full-time basis, with possible enhancement depending on previous experience and job-specific components. Applications should include a CV, a letter of motivation describing research background and interest in the position, contact details for three referees, and up to three most relevant publications. The deadline is 25 November 2026, and applications must be submitted through the official application form.
This is a strong opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist with expertise in regeneration and mouse models who wants to expand into metabolism, stable isotope tracing, and epigenetic mechanisms in a highly collaborative biomedical environment in Vienna.
