About this position
PostDoctoral Researcher at the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), Dublin, Ireland.
This postdoc position sits within a Horizon-EU funded project focused on Formulation Innovation to Enhance Thermal Stability and Deployability of a Lassa Fever Vaccine. The research addresses one of the major barriers to vaccine deployment: dependence on cold-chain logistics. The project aims to advance a live recombinant virus vector Lassa vaccine toward a next-generation formulation suitable for epidemic response and preventive use, particularly in resource-limited settings.
The successful candidate will work with the Vaccine Immunisation Technology and Access (VITAL) group at NIBRT, collaborating with a vaccine manufacturing partner to identify, develop, and verify thermostabilising formulations and processes. The work will focus on developing both liquid and lyophilised vaccine forms, with attention to formulation stability, biopharmaceutical analysis, potency, degradation, and scalable production technologies.
The role is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral research position. Responsibilities include designing and executing research under supervision, maintaining laboratory safety and data integrity, preparing stakeholder reports, mentoring early career researchers, collaborating with external partners, contributing to publications and outreach, and developing grant-writing experience. The position is part of a broader translational effort that will support preclinical testing and first-in-human clinical evaluation.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in biopharmaceutics, virology, or a strictly relevant discipline, and should have at least two years of postdoctoral or industry experience. A strong track record in biopharmaceutical formulation of live vaccines is essential, along with experience in publishing or commercial research, analytical methods for complex products, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Desirable experience includes virology, industry work, EU-funded consortia, funding applications, and leadership potential.
The deadline for applications is 30 November 2026 at 17:00 (Europe/Dublin). Applications should be sent by email to [email protected]. Further details are available on the NIBRT vacancy page and the Euraxess posting.
