About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in X-ray Photodetectors and Semiconductor Physics at The University of Queensland, based at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), St Lucia Campus, Brisbane, Australia.

The project is part of an ARC Discovery Project led by Julian A. Steele in collaboration with Miaoqiang Lyu and the School of Chemical Engineering. The research aims to develop highly sensitive, fast X-ray photodetectors using emerging semiconductor materials and devices, with applications in medical imaging and reduced radiation dose detection.

This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral role up to 2 years at Academic Level A, with salary $85,373–$113,660 + 17% superannuation. The post is suited to candidates with a PhD completed or near completion in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a related field, and experience in semiconductor materials, photophysics, or optoelectronic devices.

Applicants should also have a strong publication record and be able to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment. The role offers access to world-class facilities at AIBN, the School of Mathematics and Physics, and the School of Chemical Engineering, plus opportunities to supervise HDR students and build an independent research profile.

Applications close on 30 July 2026. Apply via the official application link; email enquiries may be sent to Julian A. Steele or Miaoqiang Lyu, but applications submitted by email will not be accepted.
