This postdoctoral opening is part of the INCVIS project, which investigates how public engagement activities (PEAs) and their outputs can be made more visible in Open Science monitoring. The project responds to a growing need to better capture open engagement with societal actors in research assessment, recognition, and strategic planning.

The successful candidate will join the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at Leiden University. CWTS is an internationally recognised research institute focused on research on research, responsible research evaluation, societal engagement and inclusion, and openness of research information. The role is embedded in the CWTS Open Science Lab and related focal areas, working in an interdisciplinary environment with researchers and data practitioners.

The work includes original research on the classification and capture of PEAs, and a combination of bibliometric, qualitative, and co-creation methods. Planned activities include a bibliometric study of grant impact statements, interviews with researchers and stakeholders, a questionnaire for the Dutch academic landscape, community consultations, dialogue sessions with repository and CRIS system managers, and co-creation sessions to develop new sociotechnical strategies for improving visibility in the digital scholarly record.

The postholder will work closely with Andrew S. Hoffman, Thed van Leeuwen, and Louise Bezuidenhout. The post is based in Leiden, The Netherlands, and is offered as a two-year employment contract for 38 hours per week. The role is advertised as Senior Researcher (Researcher 3), with a gross monthly salary of €4,728 for full-time work, plus holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, pension contributions, commuting reimbursement, and other employment benefits.

Applicants must have a PhD in social sciences, informatics, digital humanities, or another relevant discipline. Experience with qualitative and co-creation methods is important, as is familiarity with Open Science, public engagement, scholarly communication, research information systems, and research monitoring. Strong communication, project management, and time management skills are expected. English fluency is required, and Dutch language ability is considered an asset. Applicants should also be willing to live in or relocate to The Netherlands.
