About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher Positions are open in the ERC Advanced Grant project ProtoEco: Protoecologies between Artificial Cells and Mammalian Cells at the University of Mainz / Walther Lab, with links to the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The lab seeks highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry, synthetic biology, biomaterials, bioengineering, cell biology, or a related field. Strong publication record, independence, creativity, quantitative thinking, and interdisciplinary teamwork are emphasized. Useful experience includes mammalian cell culture, artificial cells, DNA circuits, reaction networks, microfluidics, biomaterials, and image analysis.
Funding is provided through the ERC/Horizon Europe project and positions are paid according to the German public salary scale (TV-L) with full social benefits. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled; the first team members are expected by the end of November 2026. Starting dates are flexible.

What's required

Strong training in polymer chemistry, systems chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, biomaterials, biotechnology, biophysics, bioengineering, cell biology, molecular biology, artificial cells, DNA nanotechnology, reaction networks, microfluidics, biomaterials, or image analysis is desirable. Excellent English skills, an independent and self-responsible work ethic, scientific curiosity, quantitative thinking, and interdisciplinary teamwork are expected.
