About this position
IMDEA Agua is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (R2) position in its Membrane Technology group. The project, MADisWATER (“Madrid es agua: Tecnologías vitales para la sostenibilidad del agua en Madrid”), focuses on the development and implementation of membrane-based technologies for wastewater treatment. The role is based at IMDEA Water Institute in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.
The successful candidate will work on the startup and validation of membrane pilots for urban and industrial wastewater, hybrid membrane systems, and resource recovery from wastewater. The position also involves the treatment of wastewater to remove emerging contaminants such as micro- and nanoplastics, pharmaceutical compounds, and biological contaminants. In addition, the researcher will contribute to national and international project proposals, supervise research assistants/technicians, write scientific publications and technical reports, and support dissemination activities.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) with a gross annual salary of €35,000–€37,860. The contract is described as a scientific-technical activities contract under Spanish law and lasts until the project ends. The expected start date is around October 2026.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, process engineering, or a closely related discipline. Experience in wastewater treatment at laboratory and pilot scale is required. Strong team-working ability and immediate availability are also requested. Experience operating and maintaining membrane equipment is considered an advantage, as is a driving licence and availability to travel by car for field or pilot activities. Good Spanish and good English are expected.
Applications must be submitted online only through the IMDEA Agua recruitment portal. Candidates must upload a CV in Spanish or English using the official IMDEA Agua template and include a personal cover letter outlining motivation and relevant merits.
